brake module unit with internal braking resistor (250 W) and connection option for an external braking resistor up to 6 kW as well as an additional DC link expansion capacity for storing of braking energy
The integrated braking resistor of the AX5000 is sufficient for most applications. In multi-axis systems the overall braking capacity of all braking resistors is available. The AX5021 brake module enables external braking resistors with a continuous output up to 6 kW to be connected, making extreme applications possible.
The AX5021 brake module consists of an internal braking resistor with a continuous power of 250 W, forced cooling and a brake chopper. An AX2090-BW5x external braking resistor with a continuous power of up to 6 kW can be connected to the brake chopper. The brake module has an auxiliary capacitance of 705 µF in order to buffer braking energy and to minimize the activation of the braking resistor.
The installation of the AX2090-BW5x braking resistor outside of the control cabinet helps avoid an additional temperature increase inside the cabinet. Connection of the brake module with the multi-axis system is straightforward via the AX-Bridge module. The integrated EtherCAT interface enables parameterization and diagnosis via the System Manager.
The braking energy from the DC link is converted into heat. The conversion of energy into heat is achieved by means of the voltage-controlled braking resistor. The braking resistor is activated if regenerative energy is fed back into the DC link and the DC link threshold value is exceeded.
