Precise strain measurement in the I/O system

High-precision signal acquisition from strain gauges: The analog input terminals EL335x (EtherCAT Terminals) and KL335x (Bus Terminals) are suitable for connection of full resistor bridges such as strain gauges, for example. They enable extremely fast and precise measurement with a high resolution of measured values.

EL3351

The EL3351 analog input terminal permits direct connection of a resistor bridge. The bridge voltage, UD, and the supply voltage, UREF, to the bridge are digitised with a 16 bit resolution, and are transmitted along an electrically isolated channel to the supervising automation system. The input channels are available in the form of two 16 bit values for further processing. The resulting measurement can be calculated from the formula: measurement = UD/UREF. Precise acquisition of the supply voltage along with the bridge voltage compensates for long-term and temperature drift.

EL3356

The analog EL3356 input terminal enables direct connection of a resistor bridge or load cell in a 4- or 6-wire connection technology. The ratio between the bridge voltage UD and the supply voltage UREF is determined simultaneously in the input circuit and the final load value is calculated as a process value on the basis of the settings in the terminal. With automatic self-calibration (can be deactivated) and dynamic filters the terminal with measuring cycles of 10 ms can be used for slow weighings with high precision.

The analog EL3356-0010 input terminal enables direct connection of a resistor bridge or load cell in a 4- or 6-wire connection technology. The ratio between the bridge voltage UD and the supply voltage UREF is determined simultaneously in the input circuit and the final load value is calculated as a process value on the basis of the settings in the terminal. With automatic self-calibration (can be deactivated), dynamic filters and distributed clock support, the terminal with measuring cycles of 100 µs can be used for fast and precise monitoring of torque or vibration sensors.

KL3356

The KL3356 analog input terminal permits direct connection of a resistor bridge. An improved input circuit makes the KL3356 significantly more accurate than the KL3351. The ratio between the bridge voltage UD and the supply voltage UREF is determined in the input circuit. In order to achieve good long-term stability, the complete circuit is re-calibrated at least every three minutes. This procedure can be synchronised by the control in order to prevent the calibration leading to a delay in the production process.
